The Child Protection Unit

The Child Protection Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead provides a range of services to children and young people who are thought to be at risk of harm due to neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse and domestic violence. These services include: crisis intervention, assessment, treatment, education and advocacy. They also provide a key consultation role with other departments, children, young people and their families.
The Child Protection Unit is committed to:

• Providing a child centred healing environment for children and young people who are at risk of harm, have been abused or neglected and their non-offending family members.
• Providing high quality assessment and treatment services with the aim of minimising the impact of abuse on the lives of children, young people and their families and to improve their long term outcomes.
• Advocating for the protection of children and young people at risk of harm.
  Facilitating and improving interagency response with regard to child protection matters
  Providing quality specialist education and training in child protection for hospital staff, government departments, community groups and students.
• Promoting quality research in all aspects of child protection and abuse.
